Exchange Autodiscover perfmon "MSExchangeAutodiscover:Error Responses/Sec" goes high for a few hours and then returns to normal.

I have an Exchange environment that for the most part is fully deployed and functional. Autodiscover works internally and externally and passes all of the tests.

Intermittantly users are complaining about the "Allow this website to configure first.last@domain.com server setttings?".  All of our users have seen this warning, and most have checked the "Don't ask me about this website again" box.

While the error is occurring everything appears to be functioning but I do notice the perfmon "MSExchangeAutodiscover:Error Responses/Sec" goes way high on one of the six CAS servers we have in our CAS array.

I suspect a connection issue with one of our eight domain controllers or something along those lines but don't know how to troubleshoot this further.

Any sugges

Hi Jason,

This is the expected warning when the autodiscover service tries to use HTTP redirection to connect to Exchange server. When this warning message occurs, you may choose not to be asked about the specific website again.

We can follow the steps in the following KB to suppress the initial warning message for a specific HTTP redirection that is expected in your organization:

Thanks Winnie, but I was looking for information on how I can troubleshoot this in my Exchange/Domain Controller environment.   I find lots of solutions for disabling Autodiscover on clients or suppressing the warnings on clients, I want it to work correctly on the server end.

I am using Netmon, Resource Monitor, and NetStat to monitor the traffic between the server and the domain controllers but not sure what to look for specifically in troubleshooting Autodiscover.

If I run test-outlookwebservices -identity first.last@domain.com I get timed out errors while the issue is occurring, then the problem resolves itself and it succeeds.

Hi Jason,

Sorry for my delay.

In client side, we need to make sure the autodiscover service can be connected successfully though there is any warning. Generally, it is not suggested to use Test-OutlookWebServices which returns Outlook Anywhere errors because the Outlook Anywhere does not need to been enabled.

To test autodiscover service, we can run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration tool in client side. For more information about this, please refer to:
